Golf Club de Pierpont Est. 1991

In this part of Belgium, close to the battlefield of Waterloo, several golf courses have been created from open farmland. Pierpont, along with Hulencourt and Empereur is one of the best of them. Pierpont's openness and lack of any real protection from the elements, often conjures up the feel of a seaside links golf course, although undulating arable farmland rather than the sea is what you constantly look onto. Gently rolling terrain, a few natural water hazards (starting at the short par-4 1st), skilful earth-mounding and occasional copses of trees give the course its basic shape and definition, ensuring an interesting layout with few weak holes. The outer front-nine loop, wrapped around an inner back-9 loop doesn't provide for too much scenic variation, but that's more than compensated for by the quality of the links-like, fast draining fairways and usually excellent quality greens. Add in some shrewd and effective bunkering, and you can be sure of a pleasant overall test for your game. An eclectic mix of short holes contains the long and challenging par-3 9th, played downhill to a dangerously water-fronted green, while at the other end of the scale the very short par-3 15th is perhaps the least impressive hole on the course.
