Golf Club Biella "Le Betulle"

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Est. 1958

Golf Club Biella "Le Betulle": Often regarded as Italy's top golf course, it's easy to see why "Le Betulle" (the Birches) at Biella Golf Club is so highly rated. The very strong and challenging John Morrison layout occupies pleasantly undulating terrain, with many elevated tees and attractive dog-legging holes in the mix.

In a serenely natural woodland setting, the plentiful array of mature silver birch, oak, chestnut and fir trees, create a classic parkland golfing environment. Running alongside and across several holes, small water ditches will keep you on your mettle, ensuring the need for good course management. Many picturesque mountain views from the course underline Biella's Piemonte setting, with the mighty Alps starting their upward journey just a few kilometres to the north and west.

Amongst many challenging and memorable holes are the par-5s that close-out each of the two nine-hole loops. But its the snaking par-5 16th that will keep you coming back for more - until you've figured out how best to play it. With green-keeping staff producing excellent quality fairways and greens, Biella has much to admire. A must play course if you are visiting Milan or Turin, or anywhere in between.

Did you know?

Biella offers travelling golfers comfortable dormy-house accommodation in its Lodge, as well as sumptuous Italian cuisine in the club's first-class restaurant.

The name Le Betulle means The Birches.

As a top-rated Italian course it is somewhat surprising the club has not hosted the Italian Open championship. However, it did play host to the 2006 European Amateur championship, won by a much acclaimed amateur golfer from Northern Ireland, Rory McIlroy (see our Tournaments section >by Venue >Biella).

Italy's 4th best course (Golf World, 2022).
Continental Europe's 117th best course (Golf World, 2023).
