Quinta de Cima Golf Course

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 2002

Quinta de Cima Golf Course and its sister layout Quinta da Ria have many similarities. Their shared characteristics include gently undulating terrain, fast and true greens, excellent shallow bunkering, relatively infrequent use of water hazards and always immaculate presentation.

The Cima is the bigger dimension course (used for top level competition), although not quite as scenic as the Ria, being set further back from the sea. Ancient knarled olive and carob trees are liberally dotted around the course, giving definition to the often luxuriously wide fairways - certainly the type of course where professionals will have a field day "bombing it!". The very strong back-nine contains one fabulous hole after another.

At the par-4 14th and 15th holes you'll get a brief chance to sample the local oranges (they are delicious), before getting to the excellent closing threesome - all with water dangerously in play. This is a big, impressive championship layout, which absolutely demands to be played. It also underlines the need for golfers to head eastward and not just westward as they leave Faro airport.
