Where2Golf says:
Opened five years after We-Ko-Pa Golf Club's original Cholla course, the Saguaro has quickly developed a reputation that's every bit as good as its highly-acclaimed sibling. Both layouts rank with Arizona's very best, occupying a wonderfully natural desert habitat on the Fort McDowell Yavapai Indian Reservation. Here it is the natural Sonoran desert environment and stunning mountain vistas that predominate. Housing and any other modern-day intrusions are absent. The Saguaro has been created with the possibility of walking the course, enhancing your experience of this challenging and immensely scenic layout. Like the Cholla, the newer layout roams its way over a large area of pristine desert terrain. Needless to say, cholla and saguaro cactuses are much in evidence beyond the good-width fairways. Maintenance and presentation standards are always top-class, ensuring that the greens are among the truest that you've putted on. As a 36-hole golf facility, with two fabulous championship courses and onsite luxury hotel, We-Ko-Pa is one of the best Stay & Play venues in and around the Phoenix / Scottsdale area.

Owned by the Fort McDowell Yavapai Indian Nation, the golf facilities at We-Ko-Pa are managed and operated by OB Sports Golf Management. >> We-Ko-Pa is a native Indian word meaning "Four Peaks Mountain", something you'll have no difficulty spotting from either of the two golf courses. Also visible, on the hour, is one of the world's highest water fountains, located in nearby Fountain Hills. >> The newest of We-Ko-Pa's two courses is named after the Sonoran desert's most iconic plant, the saguaro cactus. Although transported to many other dry, desert locations around the world, they only grow naturally in the wild in the Sonoran desert, which covers parts of Arizona, California and northern Mexico. Pronounced "sah-wahroh", this slow growing plant takes up to 75 years to develop a side arm. The arms increase the plant's reproductive capacity, creating more surface area, flowers and fruit. Saguaros can live for 150 years and more.
