Where2Golf says:
Although overshadowed by its more revered and longer-yardage stablemates, the East course is in fact Wentworth's oldest golf course - predating the West by a couple of years and the Edinburgh course by several decades. It was here on the East course in 1926 that the first GB vs USA golf match was played (officially becoming the Ryder Cup a year later) and here again in 1932 that the first Curtis Cup was played. Occupying a wonderfully natural setting and laid over undulating wooded heathland, the quality of the holes on the East courses is impressive from start to finish; the demands on your shot-making as tough as on its more famous neighbour. At just over 6200 yards, but with a par of 68 and an SSS of 70, you'll understand the East course is no pushover. The back-nine in particular gives you the clearest impression of the original open heathland character of the Wentworth estate - something that an abundance of trees and stock-broker belt real estate has disguised over the years. If you are making a tour of the great heathland courses of Surrey and Berkshire this is certainly not one to overlook. The East is yet another fine example of Harry Colt's long line of heathland gems.
