Where2Golf says:

Also known as Saint Briac, this classic seaside links golf course may not be the world's longest, but scenically it has few equals. From every hole you are offered spectacular views. Rocky headlands, harbours, fabulous bays, five different beaches, lighthouses and the beginnings of the Atlantic Ocean present an ever-changing and fabulous backdrop. Designed by Tom Dunn in 1887, the course still contains plenty of excellent challenges for today's golfer. Elevation changes exist in abundance, as the uphill par-4 1st and 3rd holes quickly confirm, with some testing doglegs, as at the par-5 4th and long par-4 16th, also in the mix. Not overly large, circular greens are excellently maintained and a joy to putt on. On this par-68, 5368 metres (5870 yds) layout, the links style rolling fairways, excellent pot bunkering and crisp, sand-based turf combine to produce links golf at its most authentic. The 13th is the most memorable of the five par-3s. Teeing off from the top of a former World War 2 concrete bunker, with yet another stunning view at your back, you take dead aim at a flagstick that stands proudly against the skyline, 152 metres up the hill. The 91-metre par-3 17th is certainly the weakest hole on the course, but is amply compensated for by the attractive par-4 18th, played towards Dinard's distinctive clubhouse. What this busy and popular course may lack in length, it more than makes up for in its stunning and varied coastal scenery, and the authenticity of its classic links credentials.

Special information about the club and / or the course

Dinard (1887) is the second oldest golf club in France, a few years younger than Pau (1856). Dinard was founded by British residents living in the area at the end of the 19th century. Having returned from India and Egypt, these army officers and their families enjoyed life on the Emerald Coast. They created France’s first tennis club, developed the sport of sailing and found 50-hectares of broom- and gorse-covered heath and sandy duneland overlooking the sea at Saint-Briac-sur-Mer, just perfect for golf. | Dinard Golf produces an excellent small booklet describing the flora and fauna you'll find around the course, as well as giving the names of the beaches and headlands you'll encounter during your round.
