La belle France - known the world over for the quality of wine, the passion of the people and superb cuisine (forgetting the frog's legs that is). Paris is most definitely the centre and heart-beat of France, but the rural countryside is where you can find a charm and rustic lifestyle that beats the heck out of city life.
About the Golf Having wiped out most of their aristocracy during "La revolution francaise" golf got of to a slow start in France. In recent years the game has been developing steadily with quite a few new courses being built to add to a relatively few older ones. The best concentrations are to be found in the north, especially around Paris and on the south coasts - Mediterranean and Atlantic. Elsewhere there are good courses dotted around in various locations.
Golf Good Points Courses are not overly crowded, so weekday and weekend play is usually possible; green fees are not too expensive.
Less Good Points There aren't enough good courses around in some parts of France. Don't expect pro-shops to sell anything useful like water, sun cream, etc, - just balls and golf wear.
Golf - Booking Always phone in advance to make a tee time booking.
Weather Year round golf is possible in most areas, but the further south you travel the better weather conditions are likely to be in winter (Nov - Feb). Hot and relatively dry summers are generally the case; once again the south being hotter and drier than the north.
Getting around The French road system is well developed but get your toll money ready to drive on the motorways across the country.
