Where2Golf says:

Laid out over a large and relatively open tract of what was formerly rural farmland, "the Emperor" is a course that suits bigger hitters, who will often find a safe landing for errant drives. However, complete immunity is not guaranteed for wayward shots. OB lurks dangerously on one side of many holes, water occasionally comes into play (very much so at the short par-4 10th), and there are several elevated greens to hit - not least the super-elevated green at the par-4 13th. Tactical planning from the tee will not go amiss, even if the invitingly good-width fairways invariably result in a decision to give it a whang with the driver. Although many trees have been planted, their time is yet to come in terms of seriously impacting your game. The standard of upkeep is usually good at Empereur, with large and sloping greens requiring a great putting touch to get down in two. Off the very back tees at 7400 yards this is a course that can provide one of the toughest tests for your game in Belgium, especially if their is a bit of breeze blowing.

Special information about the club and / or the course

"The Emperor, golf at the end of the world" is how the club is known, although its unlikely that Napolean Bonaparte had golf on his mind when, in June 1815, he marched his vast army past this wonderfully old and rustic former farm, on their way to nearby Waterloo. Just a few kilometres from the course is the scene of Wellington's historic encounter with Napolean. A museum and very impressive monument (Butte de Lion) mark the site of this epic battle.

The Grand Hotel Waterloo is located within easy reach of the centre of Waterloo and just 3 km from one of Europe's most famous battlefields (well worth a visit !). The hotel's main restaurant, La Sucrerie (sugar factory), is particularly noteworthy, not least from an architectural standpoint. Many top-quality courses in the area will keep golfers fully occupied.
