Hawkstone Park Hotel & Golf (Championship course)

A good course with many fine features - one of the top rated 3's!
Hawkstone Park Hotel & Golf (Championship course) Est. 1995

Where2Golf says:

Of the two 18-hole layouts here at Hawkstone Park, the Championship (formerly Windmill) course has a more modern and open feel compared to its older sibling, the Hawkstone course. Brian Huggett's design incorporates good use of earthmounding, solid bunkering and good-sized lake on the back-nine to present plenty of golfing challenges. A not overly dense line of silver birch trees separate the fairways on the relatively compact front-nine. There are pleasant views from the higher elevations of the course, especially across to the mountains, deep inside Wales. Alongside the 16th green you will also see a disused windmill, from which the original course name was taken. Hawkstone Park offers two enjoyable and excellent value golf courses, although this can also translate into busy weekends and inevitably slow rounds.

Special information about the club and / or the course

Hawkstone Park, the setting for the two championship golf courses, is a well-known historical park with hidden pathways, concealed grottos, secret tunnels and a remarkable collection of follies. The golf club here has strong associations with one of Scotland's greatest golfers, Sandy Lyle. This is where he spent his formative golfing years, with his father Alex, the club professional. Hawkstone's purpose built Golf Centre is housed in an impressive new clubhouse, while 66-rooms of on-site accommodation are available in the Hawkstone Park Hotel, which was expanded from a travellers' inn that dates back to 1790.
