Where2Golf says:

Dainfern Golf & Country Estate: Although an integral part of an upmarket residential community, the golf course here at Dainfern still maintains a pleasantly natural feel in most parts, especially with the rock-strewn Jukskei River crossing and running alongside several holes. Laid out on gently undulating terrain that slopes up from the river, the course contains its fair share of bridges (suspension and arch) that transport you across the river at various points. Your ball will also need to make several river crossings, although these will generally require well-judged mid-air journeys to reach the safety of greens and fairways. Once again Gary Player has struck an excellent balance between playability and golfing challenge, with many good-looking and testing holes to be played along the way. Bunkering is often substantive around the large and sloping greens, while deeper grass has been retained beyond some fairways to keep you straight off the tee, and reinforce the course's natural aspects. Generally there is an open feel to this layout, although the river, good bunkering, occasional boulders on fairways and a scattering of trees, all conspire to narrow things down as you line up your tee and approach shots. The real estate rarely intrudes. From the course there are pleasant views onto neighbouring residential suburbs that nestle down amongst the indigenous trees, and at one point a rather large silver pipeline comes prominantly into view (see Did You Know section below).

Did you know?

Running through the Dainfern golf course is one of the main rivers of Johannesburg, the Jukskei. Although not served by a major river, Johannesburg has many streams (in Afrikaans, spruits) that flow northwards from the suburbs of the city, to then flow into the Jukskei. The relatively shallow and non-navigable Jukskei continues to flow north from Dainfern, but only for 15km or so, before it flows into the Crocodile River, which in turn flows into the Hartbeespoort Dam. From some parts of the golf course you will see a large silver pipe, supported by a viaduct, crossing the Jukskei River. The pipe's brief overground appearance adds an extra dimension to the local scenery, even if the pipe is actually a sewer pipe, which needs to be brought above ground as it crosses the river.
