San Lameer Country Club

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1992

San Lameer Country Club: Located on South Africa's eastern seaboard, an hour and a half's drive from Durban, this wind prone area has understandably acquired the name, the Wild Coast. However, rather than a "walk on the wild side" of golf, this excellently designed layout at San Lameer can, in most respects, be more aptly described as a well-presented resort style course.

The constantly undulating and rolling terrain is home to several holes that will thoroughly test your course management and accuracy from the tee. Around the greens, with plenty of deep landscaping and bunkering, your short game will also need to be on song.

Water is a dangerous threat on many occasions, not least at the short par-4 5th, 9th, 10th and 18th holes, which all require well-placed iron shots from the tee. Some of the estate's terracotta coloured villas flank a few of the holes, although they are generally out of range from errant drives.

The area's characteristic dense coastal vegetation lines several holes - the par-3 16th and par-5 17th being two fine examples of holes played through wonderfully natural stretches of forest. From many vantage points on the course the Indian Ocean comes spectacularly into view, while a large variety of birdlife and families of impala and vervet monkeys add to San Lameer's natural and scenic environment.

With its excellent collection of par-3's, including the long and tough downhill 9th, San Lameer combines both resort style golf with some of the coast's wilder aspects, especially so if anything more than a gentle breeze is blowing in from the ocean.

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).

Who's Who

Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.
