The Country Club of Birmingham was originally founded in 1898 as a social and literary club based in North Birmingham. In 1903 the club merged with the Birmingham Golf Club, and moved to the Highland Park area of South Birmingham. In 1927, the club moved 1.5 miles further south to new premises and a new course at its present location. The original course at Highland Ave is now a public-access course owned by the City of Birmingham, and known as the Charley Boswell course at Highland Park.
