Where2Golf says:

Arabian Ranches Golf Club: Although two-storey villas are wrapped around most of the course perimeter here at Arabian Ranches, the layout still maintains its desert credentials and a wonderful linksy feel. Former Open Champion Ian Baker-Finch has, to his credit, crafted a hugely enjoyable and challenging golf course.

With the housing always set generously well back from the course, the preservation of large swathes of desert scrub between the individually crafted holes gives the course its essential spacious character. The two out-and-back nine-hole loops are devoid of water hazards, and there are no defined bunkers. However, sand is plentiful. Large areas of it separate the nicely contoured and tightish fairways. On several occasions the large sandy waste areas sidle up alongside the greens ... taking on a more traditional bunker form ... especially so at the par-3s. The sand in the waste areas is generally quite soft, which gives the impression of playing from a traditional fairway bunker rather than from Arizona-style hard-pan.

There are few trees on the course, but small bushes feature in the sandy waste areas ... home to many small desert quails. Within his excellent design, Baker-Finch has included quite large greens, full of all manner of testing slopes and borrows. The perimeter housing aside, this is a Dubai golf course that captures the spirit of desert golf while providing a thoroughly enjoyable and challenging round.
