Where2Golf says:

Huntingdale Golf Club is home to a course that sits with the elite of Melbourne's wonderful collection of "sandbelt" layouts. Underpinning Huntingdale's status as a confirmed favourite with many visiting golfers, are the quality of Hugh Alison's course design and excellence of the (recently rebuilt) clubhouse.

The modestly undulating and mostly tree and bush-lined fairways are stylishly bunkered, while around the greens the bunkering is often prolific. At the par-3 12th the green is literally encircled by sand. Needless to say, Huntingdale demands your bunker play is on song.

The layout's gentle slopes give rise to some nicely elevated tee-boxes and greens, as you'll discover at the excellent back-to-back par-5 6th and 7th holes. The back-nine is perhaps a tad more open than the front, with water in play on a few holes.

The clubhouse facilities include a double-terrace that seems to overhang the 18th green; from your sedentary position on the terrace, you'll enjoy a marvellous view down the entire par-4 18th hole, and onto a couple of other holes besides. A great 19th hole at which to slake one's thirst and perhaps "slate" the golfing artistry (or deficiencies) of others!

Apart from a (not too noisy) perimeter road on one side of the course, Huntingdale presents a wonderful golf oasis. Here the grind of modern day life melts away, to be replaced by the milder challenges of impressive bunkering, tighter than average fairways and cunningly sloping greens.

Did you know?

Ellerston was conceived by the late Kerry Packer (1937-2005) as an exclusive and world-class golf (and polo) facility for his family and invited guests. Kerry Packer, son of Australian media proprietor Sir Frank Packer, became one of Australia's most powerful media tycoons and, in his time, the richest man in Australia.

Beyond his media interests, Packer was best known for founding World Series Cricket, which helped transform and modernise the game, but at the time was considered an affront to the cricketing establishment and its controlling bodies.

Koksijde Golf ter Hille Golf Club: on what was previously open farmland, an enjoyable and challenging links-style layout has been crafted.
