La Bruyère Golf Club

3-star: a good golf course with many fine features.
La Bruyère Golf Club Est. 1988

Where2Golf says:

La Bruyère Golf Club: Situated on the edge of Belgium's Brabant and Hainaut regions, La Bruyère Golf Club is laid out around the Château de la Ferme de la Bruyère, which was itself part of the famous Villers-la-Ville Abbey (see Did You Know section below). The Chateau is now home to the club's pleasant clubhouse.

Surrounded by quiet, rolling, arable countryside, this rather open, easy-going layout stretches out over the gently undulating, former farmland. Good-width, lightly bunkered fairways lead you to subtly sloping greens, which are defended by shallow bunkering. The par-4 5th and par-4 10th holes uniquely bring water into play, with small ponds guarding the approach to the putting surface.

Not an overly dramatic nor challenging layout, but one that will allow you to hone your skills, before taking on some of the more demanding layouts in the scenic and historic Brabant Walloon province of Belgium. The club also has a 9-hole pitch and putt course.

Did you know?

Located just 6 kms from Golf la Bruyere is the spectacular ruin of a large Cistercian abbey, the Abbaye de Villers. It is located just north of the town of Villers-la-Ville, founded in 1146 and largely built during the 13th century. The abbey started to decline in the 16th century, when Spanish military invaders to the Low Countries did considerable damage to the church and cloister, both of which were partially restored in 1587. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the number of monks and the abbey's wealth dwindled and it was finally abandoned in 1796 during the French Revolution.
