Best golf courses in Belgium

Golf architect Tom Simpson had a big hand in establishing golf in Belgium in the early part of the 20th century, designing 4 out of the first 5 courses to be built.
These early courses, and a few others established in the 1930's, allowed the aristocracy and nouveau riche to indulge their appetite for the internationally expanding pastime of golf; many of these courses were given their Royal titles. With one or two notable exceptions (e.g. Royal Waterloo) the building of newer courses did not really get under way until the 1980's.

Along Belgian's short coastline you'll find three excellent golf courses: Royal Ostend, the only true links course in Belgium; Royal Zoute and Koksijde, Golf ter Hille. All golf courses presented are open to the public. Some may be difficult to play on week-ends owing to the number of members, but travelling green-feers should often be able to play during the week.

Koksijde Golf ter Hille Golf Club: on what was previously open farmland, an enjoyable and challenging links-style layout has been crafted. The Duke Golf Club: represents the latest in a trio of private courses to arrive on the Dutch golfing scene. It is arguably the best of the country's more northerly layouts, together with Lauswolt (50 km away to the north-west).
Golfbaan Stippelberg: located 25 kilometres north-east of Eindhoven, this relatively new addition to championship golf in the Netherlands has fast become one of the country's "must play" courses.
