Mission Hills Haikou (Sandbelt Trails course)

4-star: generally an excellent standard golf course, well worth visiting.

Where2Golf says:

Mission Hills Haikou (Sandbelt Trails course): Home to no less than 10 golf courses, Mission Hills Haikou is one of the world's largest golf clubs (if not the largest). The courses range in size and stature from the highly-acclaimed Blackstone tournament and Lava Fields layouts, down to the more modestly-sized Stepping Stone and Double Pin executive courses.

For the Sandbelt Trails course at Mission Hills, Haikou designer Brian Curley had in mind the sandbelt courses around Melbourne, Australia. The likes of Royal Melbourne, Kingston Heath and Metropolitan steered many of the design ideas. As a result, the layout features large bunkers dominated by high sand faces, that at times rise above the fairway and green surfaces. Several bunkers blend into the native jungle vegetation without a clean edge. Large undulating greens feature plenty of movement, while square teeing grounds add to the distinctive "sandbelt" look. In keeping with an Australian feel, tall eucalyptus trees also make their presence felt. The gently rolling, often flattish terrain gives plenty of width from the tee, allowing alternative angles of attack for approach shots. A well-crafted design with plenty of golfing challenge and usually good upkeep. One to include on your play list if you are in the area. One to include on your play list if you are in the area.

At this Stay & Play venue, the on-site accommodation is located close to the golf facilities.
