Caledonia Golf & Fish Club

5-star : simply the best - golf courses don’t get much better than this.
Caledonia Golf & Fish Club Est. 1994

Where2Golf says:

Caledonia Golf & Fish Club is home to the first solo design of the late, great golf course architect Mike Strantz. The course nestles in South Carolina’s charming Low Country, and sits atop an historic rice plantation alongside the wetlands of the Waccamaw River.

Stranz's wonderfully crafted layout is replete with tidal marshes, freshwater creeks and giant live oaks. This tree-lined parkland layout provides a wonderful test for your all-round game, with many attractive, skilfully crafted and challenging holes to enjoy. A must play if you are in the Myrtle Beach area.

MOST MEMORABLE HOLE: The picturesque par-4 18th borders the Plantation’s old rice field, demanding a precise tee shot that sets up a difficult second. Getting par or better requires a forced carry over water onto a green at the foot of the clubhouse. Don't be surprised if onlookers in rocking chairs, are betting on your success or otherwise in hitting this testing two-tier green.

Did you know?

Caledonia Golf & Fish Club owes its name to Dr. Robert Nesbit, a Scotsman who bestowed upon his estate the name the Romans gave to his homeland, “Caledonia.” It is not known whether Nesbit acquired the property through his marriage in 1797 to Elizabeth Pawley or by purchase.

The Caledonia estate, which was worked as a rice plantation, remained in the Nesbit family until 1940. Records indicate that, at its peak in the mid-1800s, Caledonia’s production of rice was more than 700,000 pounds per annum, well above average compared to other plantations in the area.

Royal Ostend Golf Club: represents Belgium’s only real "beside-the-seaside" links golf course (others like Royal Zoute are located a little way inland). Here at Ostend many holes make excellent use of an impressive area of sand dunes. Koksijde Golf ter Hille Golf Club: on what was previously open farmland, an enjoyable and challenging links-style layout has been crafted. Perhaps the inspiration for Koksijde's new course came from a renowned Harry Colt layout that existed in the 1920s just a couple of kilometres to the west. Read more...
