Verdura Golf & Spa Resort (West course)

4-star: generally an excellent standard golf course, well worth visiting.

Where2Golf says:

Verdura Golf & Spa Resort (West course): Located on the south coast of Sicily near the town of Sciacca, Verdura is a relatively recent addition to Europe's fine array of Mediterranean Stay&Play venues. With two similar length championship layouts and a 9-hole short course, Verdura presents top-class golf and resort facilities.

The beachside holes are the star attraction on Verdura's beautiful West course. The Mediterranean first comes into view at the par-4 8th and 9th holes, before returning for the four-hole closing stretch, starting at the par-3 15th. It’s these final four holes, with their uninterrupted sea views, that steal the show. The par-4 16th and 18th are beautiful two-shotters, while the par-3 15th and 17th holes are dominated by sea view backdrops. The 18th brings you back to the clubhouse directly alongside the shoreline.

The East and West courses at Verdura are both open links-style layouts, designed by leading American architect Kyle Phillips. The East course is usually rated slightly ahead of the West, even though the West boasts one or two more beachside holes. If you are visiting Verdura, the best advice is to ensure you have time to play both courses.

Did you know?

The Verdura Resort is perfectly positioned to explore the island of Sicily, with its many historical and cultural sites situated close by. Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean, and as captivating as it is diverse. For centuries, it has been at the crossroads of civilisations and each has left an indelible imprint on this Italian region. | Verdura hosted the European Tour's Sicilian Open on a composite layout, comprising holes from both the East and West courses. The composite includes the 12 seaside holes, connected by six of the more inland holes. This Composite is generally available to be played twice a week, allowing you to test your game on a course used by Europe's top tour professionals. (See our Tournaments section >by Venue >Verdura).

Koksijde Golf ter Hille Golf Club: on what was previously open farmland, an enjoyable and challenging links-style layout has been crafted.
