Where2Golf says:

Moorpark Country Club is stunningly located in the folding hills and canyons of the south-western part of the Santa Susana mountain range. From its many lofty vantage points you will enjoy spectacular views over surrounding hills and communities, and away to distant mountains (and on clear days the Pacific Ocean). Each of the three nine-hole loops: Ridgeline, Creekside and Canyon Crest, provide exciting elevation changes, challenging shot-making and stunning views. The last four holes of Ridgeline and virtually all of the Creekside holes are flanked or crossed by creeks, wash areas, ponds and wetlands - all to be factored in to your course management, and avoided if possible. Achieving a balance between the dramatic intensity of the terrain and the playability of the course has been excellently achieved by designer Peter Jacobsen, although if the wind is blowing, the generally good-width fairways are going to feel a whole lot narrower. Housing sits above just one or two sections of the perimeter, but is barely noticeable and in no way detracts from the layout's innate naturalness, with open hills and desert-like scrub flanking most of the holes. The Creekside course, with one or two tighter, creek-crossing holes than the Ridgeline, gets you alongside the apricot groves from which Moorpark derives its name (see Did You Know section below). All 27-holes present a powerful, dramatic and immensely scenic layout, that just demands to be played.

Did you know?

Moorpark Country Club, California is somewhat circuitously linked to Moor Park Golf Club, England - by apricots ! The Moor Park Estate in Hertfordshire, England (complete with impressive Palladian-style mansion, which is now the golf clubhouse) was where Admiral Lord Anson (1697-1762) successfully cultivated the moorpark apricot. The moorpark is still the most popular garden variety of apricot in the UK. The Spanish brought the moorpark apricot to the New World, first planting it in Mexico, and later, in their California missions. Founded in 1900 by Robert Poindexter, the town of Moorpark (Ventura County, California), is named after the moorpark apricot, which was widely grown in this area. [See separate entry in Where2Golf.com for Moor Park GC, England].
