Where2Golf says:

Trump National Golf Club, Los Angeles: As you might imagine, there is nothing ordinary or mundane about Trump National Golf Club, Los Angeles. Like its larger than life owner, this is a very special golf course, full of panache, challenge and plenty to keep you on your mettle. From the sumptuous Italianate clubhouse, with classical baroque music playing in the locker rooms, to the reconstructed closing stretch of holes, no expense has been spared, and no detail overlooked.

The excellent Pete Dye designed links-style golf course (reworked by Jim Fazio) is laid out directly alongside the Pacific Ocean. The undulating terrain, often tightish fairways, prodigious bunkering and occasional water hazards ensure every facet of your game is tested. Go too far offline and, as on all British links courses, dense bushes and uncompromising, thick grass lies in wait. If the wind picks-up this is a layout that can certainly bare its teeth.

Two significant departures from the otherwise authentic links theme, come at the greens of the par-4 1st and par-3 17th holes. The backdrop to both are spectacular and substantial waterfalls - something you would more normally associate with the tropics rather than a seaside golf course. Love 'em or hate 'em, you have to admit the waterfalls are spectacular.

Come rain or (more typically) shine, Trump National, Los Angeles is a delight to play, with ocean and coastal views that are as constant and memorable as on any great coastal golf course.

Did you know?

Trump National Los Angeles, originally started life as the Ocean Trails Golf Club, an 18-hole championship course that opened in 1999. In that same year a landslide demolished the 18th hole, causing the club to close temporarily. It re-opened in 2000 as a 15-hole golf course.

American property developer Donald Trump bought Ocean Trails in 2002, closing the course in 2004 for extensive re-working and renovation. Rumour has it that the reconstruction of the 18th hole alone weighed-in at a massive $64 million. In January 2006 the course was officially re-launched and re-opened as Trump National Golf Club, Los Angeles.

A chance to stay on one of the world's most famous (former) ocean liners. Originally launched in 1936, 307 of the staterooms, spanning three decks, now provide hotel accommodation in Los Angeles Harbor. Each cabin is uniquely appointed, and embellishments can include rich wood paneling, Art Deco features, original artwork and portholes for the outside cabins. If you wish to enjoy some fresh ocean air and exercise, four times around the Sun Deck equals one mile.
