Golf du Médoc (Vignes course)

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1991

Golf du Médoc (Vignes course): Not to be overshadowed by the resort's Châteaux course, Golf du Medoc's Les Vignes layout provides a contrasting, but no lesser golfing experience. Several holes on the "Vines" course are more tree-lined than on its more open and linksy companion. The Vine's fairways are a bit tighter, the bunkers bigger and the deep-rough looks closer to the fairway's edge.

Les Vignes, like its companion, occupies a wonderfully quiet and natural environment. The terrain is relatively flat and trees are more in evidence, complementing the layout's open "heathland" stretches.

On the back-nine you play through what is left of an attractive pine forest, where accuracy in addition to length is required to score well. Picking the right line from the tee is also important at the par-4 8th and par-4 10th, played in opposite directions on either side of the same small lake.

With its excellent quality greens, Les Vignes offers a more tree-lined and technical challenge than the bigger dimension and more open Châteaux course. In addition to Golf du Médoc's two handsomely designed 18-hole courses, the resort also boasts excellent practice facilities, a 4-star onsite hotel, great cuisine and as much of the local wine as you can handle.

Tournaments

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).

Who's Who

Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.

Jim Fazio's original layout was much changed to create a modern Ryder Cup course ... now one of the Eternal City's (and Italy's) most revered.

Prince's Golf Club, Kent (UK)
