Brampton Golf Club

3-PLUS: Good course - several memorable features; worthy of 3½ stars.

Est. 1909

Brampton Golf Club: Brampton is located in a wonderfully scenic area of rural Cumbria. Here sweeping panoramas of picturesque farmland and moorland roll away to the peaks of England's much-loved Lake District, while the small lake of Talkin Tarn sits alongside the course. However, adding a golf course into this blissful north England countryside was not such a straightforward task.

James Braid was required to muster his full range of creative design skills to get the best out of the rolling, undulating heathland. The resulting layout contains many excellent golf holes, as well as others where "local knowledge" can make the going easier. Especially useful on the more twisting and turning holes is to know where to hit the several blind shots that are required.

Although not particularly long in a modern-day sense, Brampton is a place where most players delight in the golfing challenges Braid (and nature) laid down and the splendid setting and the gorgeous views.

Did you know?

Just north of Brampton and stretching out to east and west, are many well-preserved sections of Hadrian's Wall. The wall, begun in AD 122 during the rule of emperor Hadrian, created the most heavily fortified border in the Roman Empire. It was the first of two fortifications built across Great Britain.
