Club de Campo La Zagaleta

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1994

Club de Campo La Zagaleta is a private facility, open only to its members and their guests. If you are invited to play here, you'll find 36 holes of challenging golf, spread across the Old Course, and the more recently opened New course.

The very testing Old course occupies quite hilly terrain where the fairways, often dauntingly viewed from the elevated tee boxes, never look overly wide, and all too often, unnervingly narrow. In places the experience is not unlike playing a mountain layout, with several steep drop-offs ensuring lost balls stay lost.

There are some excellent holes mixed in with others that are challengingly tight. Two of the best on the Old course are the 9th and 18th, which bring you back up to the luxurious clubhouse, and take you alongside an elegant water feature. Visitor tee-times are a very rare commodity at La Zagaleta, but if you do happen to play here, bring a good supply of balls and enjoy this wonderfully testing and immensely scenic course.

Limited access: La Zagaleta's courses are private, generally playable only by members and their invited guests.

Did you know?

In 1990 a group of private investors headed by Enrique Perez Flores purchased a 900-hectare plot, located north of Benehavis, and known as La Baraka. Their vision was to create a private estate and country club in the foothills of the Ronda Mountains (Serrania de Ronda). The Zagaleta estate now includes 230 high-value homes, as well as two golf courses, and the very best of private country club member facilities.
