Aberdovey Golf Club

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1892

Aberdovey Golf Club: On the north side of Aberdyfi (Aberdovey) is one of Wales' top links golf courses. The layout is bordered by a natural ribbon of dunes and a railway line; the clubhouse sits right alongside the railway station.

Sheep and cattle still graze on the course, kept off the greens by electrified fencing. The excellent greens are relativey flat, like most of the course, and usually protected by well-placed bunkers to left and right. The 288-yard par-4 16th perhaps epitomises Aberdovey; its not a long hole by any means, but one that requires careful shot-making, lest you pull your drive onto the railway line to the left.

Although sea views onto Cardigan Bay are relatively few (you stay behind the dunes most of the time) the simple charms of Aberdovey will unfurl as you relax into these peaceful and wonderfully natural golf links.
