Ballater Golf Club

3-star: Good course – an enjoyable test for your game.

Est. 1892

Ballater Golf Club: On the edge of the Cairngorm mountains in the Scottish Highlands, the golf course at Ballater is laid out alongside the banks of the River Dee. This part-open, part-wooded course provides a fine test for golfers of all levels, and is a favourite with local and visiting golfers alike.

The well-maintained fairways and greens are arranged over gently undulating terrain, more in-keeping with its riverside location, than reflecting the steeper contours of the picturesque wooded hills beyond the course.

Located in fashionable Royal Deeside, Darroch Learg boasts a wonderful vantage point above Ballater, on the slopes of Craigendarroch, the rocky 'Hill of Oaks' which creates such a fine backdrop to the village. The house was built in 1888 as a country residence; it still retains the ambience and relaxing informality which makes you feel like a house guest in a private mansion.

Tournaments

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).

Who's Who

Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.
