From the A28 (Utrecht-Amersfoort road) take exit 3 (Zeist/Den Dolder) and follow the N238 direction Den Dolder. After o.6 km at traffic lights, turn left onto the N237 direction Bosch en Duin/Zeist West. After 1.7 km at traffic lights take exit Bosch en Duin but do not turn right; go across lights and bear right into small dead-end road that runs parallel to the N237. After o.5 km turn right direction Utrecht "De Pan". Follow narrow road through wood and after 1 km entrance to golf is in front of you.
Utrechtse Golf Club "De Pan": From first to last, this is one of the great heathland courses of Europe ( ... Britain and Ireland included). Every hole here is full of character and charm, individually sculpted and different from any hole that comes before or after.
The pleasantly undulating terrain and rolling fairways are complemented by excellent bunkering, and give rise to several partly blind tee and approach shots, or (as at the par-4 6th) both. The good-width fairway at the opening par-5 provides an indicator of things to come, with some later holes perhaps feeling a tad tighter. The tricky short par-4 10th demands one of your most accurate drives, prior to an approach to a discreetly tucked-away green.
Several tee-shots require good-length carries over swathes of heather, which is also much in play if you stray too far offline. What binds everything together here is the quiet, natural splendour of the wooded heathland setting, a masterful Harry Colt design and excellent quality greenkeeping. Many rate this the best inland course in the Netherlands; we see little reason to argue with that.
Pick of the holes: Although tree-lined for much of the round, that's not the case at the closing trio. Played from wonderfully elevated tee-boxes (as is most of the back-nine), these last three holes embrace an open area of heathland, where naturally growing heather predominates.
Visitors welcome on Mon-Thur; very restricted access Fri-Sun. Visitors should be NGF members of an A or B golf club, or members of a recognised foreign golf club.

Continental Europe boasts many excellent golf courses. Perhaps the best exemplars of the heathland genre, are Utrecht "De Pan", Hamburg GC "Falkenstein", and Morfontaine near Paris. Interesting that the great English designer, Harry Colt, played a big part in designing the first two, and his great "rival" Tom Simpson the latter.
De Pan is the "home" club of golf-playing members of the Dutch Royal family, including Willem-Alexander, King of the Netherlands.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda's five wins in five starts, when he placed second at the Houston Open. Either side of that, he won The Arnold Palmer, The Players, and then The Masters and The Heritage.
