Fulford Golf Club

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1906

Fulford Golf Club: Although not as renowned as some of the Alister MacKenzie-designed moorland courses located 20 miles away to the north of Leeds, Fulford nonetheless provides a very satisfying golf outing in pleasant rural surroundings. As for the excellent layout at Fulford, you can thank Charles MacKenzie, Alister's younger brother, for that.

Occupying flattish terrain, there are more than a few occasions when the course takes on the character of a "MacKenzie" designed heathland course. In contrast, there are also several holes giving a more wooded parkland feel; a fine array of birch, pine and oak trees line several fairways.

The first five and last five holes on this out-and-back layout are located on the northside of the A64 (York ring road), the middle eight on the south side. Apart from a footbridge that gets you over the road, the course is in all respects a seamless continuation of excellent quality holes. The road itself will not disturb or interfere with your round one jot.

A special mention must be made of Fulford's top quality greens, as good as you'll find among the many great courses in the north of England.

Tournaments

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).

Who's Who

Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.
