From Cape Town follow the N2 highway direction George. Take exit 425 (George Airport/Herolds Bay) and head north on the R404, direction George Airport/Blanco/Oudtshoorn. After 5.5 km Fancourt is well signposted, on your right off the R404.
Fancourt (The Links)
The Links at Fancourt: Here at one of South Africa's best known golf and leisure resorts, visiting golfers can enjoy three varied and challenging championship golf courses, as well as excellent practice and learning facilities. Of the three, the most demanding and perhaps most distinctive layout is the Links course.
A superb and testing British links-style course is not perhaps what you'd expect to find a few miles inland on South Africa's Garden Route - but make no mistake this is a "links" in name and in character. Gary Player's masterpiece was in fact built on a flat, disused airfield. More than 750,000 tons of earth was moved to create a classic looking dunescape, onto which this world class links-style course was crafted. The result is a superb and very testing championship course.
As aficionados of links golf would expect, the terrain is open, the fairways full of rolling bumps and hollows and lined with sand dunes (housing is conspicuously absent). There is deep uncompromising rough awaiting the long-carries from the tees, plenty of strategic pot bunkering and some huge, undulating greens.
Integrated into the design are some wonderfully natural wetland areas, which means that water is dangerously brought into play on a few occasions. Wooden-slatted walkways are used on a few occasions to get you from green-to-tee. As one of the very well-trained local caddies accurately put it, "this is a great course - enjoy it".

The owners and visionaries of Fancourt are Dr Hasso & Sabine Plattner. Hasso Plattner is a highly successful German entrepreneur and co-founder of the software giant SAP.
Golf at Fancourt started with 27-holes constructed in 1990, which were officially opened in 1991. An additional 9-holes were added in 1997 to create today's outstanding duo, the Montagu and Outeniqua courses. The Links course followed in 2000 and Bramble Hill (now reduced to six holes) in 2001.
The Links course quickly became established as a top-level championship course and has held several high-quality professional events, including the Presidents Cup, South African Open and Women's World Cup of Golf (see Tournaments section >by Venue >Fancourt Links).

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).
Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.
Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.
Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.
Jim Fazio's original layout was much changed to create a modern Ryder Cup course ... now one of the Eternal City's (and Italy's) most revered.
Here at Prince’s Golf Club you'll find 27 excellent holes of links golf. Just over the fence and sharing similar terrain is Royal St George’s; but Prince’s is far from overshadowed by its venerable neighbour. The three nine-hole loops at Prince's, laid out over gently undulating terrain, are sure to bring a smile of satisfaction to all lovers of links golf.
