Leave the M25 at exit 8. Follow the A217 direction Reigate/Sutton (alongside the M25). At roundabout turn right and follow the A217 direction Sutton. After 2.3 miles turn left into Mill Rd, direction Tadworth / Walton-on-the-Hill (B290). After o.3 miles turn left onto B2032 direction Dorking. After o.8 miles turn right into Deans Lane. Golf Club is 100 yards on your left.
Walton Heath Golf Club (New course): Many would say the New Course is every bit as good as its more revered Walton Heath sibling, the Old. In many respects they are like peas in a pod. Both were designed by Herbert Fowler, both were hewn from the same jungle of heather, gorse and bracken that covers Walton Heath. The New course was added in two stages, starting with a 9-hole layout made ready for play in 1907. The new arrival was extended to a full 18 in 1913.
A lightish scattering of silver birch and pine trees allows you to look across the largely open and gently undulating terrain, which characterises both the Old and New courses. Whether the New is more forgiving and/or has a greater variety of holes is debatable. The New course certainly tacks this way and that, rather than following the Old course's more straightforward out-and-back layout. Intertwined in several places, both courses benefit from the same unspoilt heathland habitat. In spring and summer this landscape explodes with a profusion of yellow gorse and purple heather.
Walton Heath's sandy sub-soil provides excellent year-round playing conditions, while laying down a thorough test for your golfing skills. The wind may well be a factor as you try to stay out of abundant heather that lines the holes. Menacing heather-trimmed bunkers also create a formidable sight as you look out from the tee, nowhere more so than at the excellent dog-legging par-4 11th.
For aficionados of the short game, Walton Heath has it all: plenty of opportunity for bump-and-run approaches, as well as high-flighted shots into some greens. Your sand wedge will most likely be put to frequent use, while that trusty Texas wedge (your putter) will also see plenty of action on and around the expansive, undulating greens. The excellent collection of three stylishly bunkered par-3s comes to a close at the 10th, leaving a long inward eight holes, whose par-4s and 5s meander through sections of the Old course.

Now well over 100 years old, Walton Heath has had only four head professionals: five-times Open Championship winner and prolific course designer James Braid; world famous club-maker Harry Busson; Ken Macpherson and most recently Simon Peaford. The list of former members is no less distinguished. At one time the membership included 24 MPs, 21 Lords, and 6 cabinet ministers - among them David Lloyd George and Winston Churchill.
In 1936 Walton Heath's Club Captain had a most interesting year. He started it as HRH The Prince of Wales, later becoming King Edward VIII, and then after abdicating finished the year as the Duke of Windsor; he was Club Captain at Walton Heath for longer than he was King!

Just over the fence and sharing similar terrain is Royal St George’s; but Prince’s is far from overshadowed by its venerable neighbour.
