Hayling Golf Club

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1883

Hayling Golf Club: with limited evidence of good-sized sand dunes as you head out to the opening par-3, you might wonder if you are really about to play one of England's much revered links courses. But as you delve further into Hayling's out-and-back layout, the undulating dunes of Sinah Common appear, and Tom Simpson’s design weaves its spell.

The stretch between the snaking par-5 7th and par-5 14th arguably contains Halying's best holes. Hitting the firm fast fairways is key to a good score. Stray too far offline from the short-stuff, and a mix of scrub and gorse thickets await. The greens here are usually quick and true.

Beyond the course the scenery is an eclectic mix of sea and estuary views, wildlife areas, pill-boxes, marinas, and in the distance the Isle of Wight and inland hills.

Did you know?

Hayling Island is connected to the Hampshire mainland by the Langstone road bridge. In times gone by, the crossing onto the island was via the Wadeway, an historic causeway that is now impassable, and which lay just to the east of the current bridge. To the west of the bridge the remains of a former railway viaduct (1865-1963) can just be seen.
