8 km NW of Athlone
Leave N6 just west of Athlone and take N61 direction Roscommon. After 4.3 km turn right direction Hodson Bay (Hotel). After 1.1 km turn left into Athlone GC. (Hodson Bay Hotel is 200 metres further on).
Athlone Golf Club: Occupying a quiet and very scenic stretch of land jutting out into Lough Ree, Athlone's golf course offers a combination of testing golf and wonderful views.
The significant drop from the tee at the par-4 1st and an approach played to an elevated green, signal the often undulating nature of this layout, although thankfully it could not be described as overly hilly.
An accurate tee shot is required at the par-3 2nd, this time underlining the need for straight hitting on many parts of this scenic parkland course. For slicers of the golf ball, OB is frequently present on the right, something to factor into your course management, especially when lining up those booming tee shots.
The 4th and 5th are challenging holes taking you out towards the end of the Yew Point peninsula, from which views over the Lough and its extensive reed beds maintain the enchantment of this location. Overall, a very pleasant lakeside course, usually maintained to a high standard.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.

Athlone GC started life as Athlone Garrison Golf Club and was mainly for British Army Officers. In 1904 with many more local people joining, the club became Athlone Golf Club. In 1938 the club moved to its current location at Hodson Bay where J. McAllister of Portmarnock Golf Club designed the present course.

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda's five wins in five starts, when he placed second at the Houston Open. Either side of that, he won The Arnold Palmer, The Players, and then The Masters and The Heritage.

Here at Prince’s Golf Club you'll find 27 excellent holes of links golf. Just over the fence and sharing similar terrain is Royal St George’s; but Prince’s is far from overshadowed by its venerable neighbour. The three nine-hole loops at Prince's, laid out over gently undulating terrain, are sure to bring a smile of satisfaction to all lovers of links golf.
