The Wynyard Club

3-PLUS: Good course - several memorable features; worthy of 3½ stars.

Est. 1996

The Wynyard Club: Known as the Wellington course, the 18-holes of The Wynyard Club are arranged in two nine-hole loops, and lay down an excellent test for golfers of all levels. An undulating front-nine, with some of its holes lined by good-size houses and villas, gives way to a slightly flatter back-nine, where smaller residences, pleasant woodland and open countryside are more in evidence.

There is plenty of space to employ the "big timber" from the tee on most holes, and with water rarely in play, this is a course that offers the chance to card a good score. However, an abundance of stylish fairway and greenside bunkering will require good shot-making if its to be avoided, and the course is certainly toughening-up as earlier tree-planting matures.

The layout's fine array of straight and gently doglegging holes, and mix of short and long par-3s ensures plenty of variety in the golfing challenges you'll face. The course is typically presented in excellent condition, although the going can get a bit heavy after prolonged spells of wetter weather.

Plans for The Wynyard Club originally envisaged an expansion of the golf facilities to include a second golf course.
