Bogogno Golf Resort (Bonora course)

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Est. 2000

Bogogno Golf Resort (Bonora course): Bogogno is home to two 18-hole championship courses, both designed by the renowned American architect Robert von Hagge. The early holes of the much admired Bonora course, may suggest a bold US-style development, with new Italianate properties running alongside the fairways. However the real charms of this out-and-back layout soon emerge, as it moves into a pleasantly natural rural setting.

For most of the time you will enjoy a scenic walk through picturesque Lombardian landscapes. A mixture of woodland and farmland flanks most of the course, with vineyards just beyond, and the Monte Rosa mountain chain in the distance.

Von Hagge's challenging golf holes will test your golfing skills every step of the way. The variety of scenery is matched by the variety of hazards that mark out and define the course. Ponds and streams are often present, flanking several holes and creating distinctly threatening water hazards.

Expansive bunkering and thickish rough also place an emphasis on straight-hitting and good course management. Von Hagge rarely let's you get away with wild or wayward hitting.

At times laid out on gently undulating terrain, at others occupying flatter ground, the Bonora throws down an excellent golfing challenge while providing the opportunity for a stroll through some captivating countryside.

If ever there was a course to buy a course guide/yardage book then this is it. Water comes dangerously into play on 13 out of the 18 holes, sometimes when you least expect it.
