Hesketh Golf Club

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1885

Hesketh Golf Club: Hesketh's first two holes and final five, are characterised by sizeable sand dunes that give plenty of contour and character to the opening and closing stretches of the course. These holes effectively encircle the impressive clubhouse.

In the middle section of the course the terrain becomes considerably flatter, promoting more of a parkland and less of a coastal duneland feel to proceedings. The 6th and 7th holes run alongside an area of marshland, which stretches far into the distance, and is home to a well-known bird reserve. The sea itself is too far across the marshes to be a visible feature from the course, but with trees, water and deep rough bordering both sides of many holes you'll need to keep your full attention on the course itself.

Although not overly dramatic in terms of scenery, Hesketh is nonetheless a very pleasant and natural golf course, excellently maintained and a regular venue for prestigious regional amateur events.

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).

Who's Who

Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.
