Mollymook Golf Club (Hilltop course)

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1977

Mollymook Golf Club (Hilltop course): This very pleasant and often testing parkland golf course, known locally as "The Ultimate Challenge", is set in a natural and undulating environment of towering eucalyptus trees. Many testingly tight, tree-lined holes allows the course to live up to its local reputation, although there is often more space on the fairways than you'd at first think.

On several occasions, especially when playing the tighter dog-legging holes and a few that bring water into play, you'll be well served by placing a premium on accuracy versus length.

The front nine is more undulating than the flatter back-nine, although the stiffest climb of all comes at the rifle straight, uphill par-5 17th. Your reward for making the climb is a scenic glimpse back to the Pacific Ocean, the only sea view offered from the course.

High-flighted approach shots are needed to several elevated greens, where deep bunkering could easily penalise you a shot or two. In this wonderfully natural setting, with its impressively tall gum trees, you can also enjoy a wonderful array of birdlife, including noisy, colourful rosellas and inquisitive kookaburras.

In addition to the 18-hole championship Hilltop course, just a kilometre or so away you'll find Mollymook Golf Club's Beachside course. This nine-hole, par-33 layout sits atop the southern tip of Mollymook Beach and ambles around the scenic Collers Beach inlet.
