Peninsula Kingswood Country Golf Club (North course)

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Est. 1924

Peninsula Kingswood Country Golf Club (North course): Following the 2013 merger of Peninsula Country Golf Club and Kingswood Golf Club, the merged club sold-off the Kingswood facility in Dingley Village, concentrating its focus on the Peninsula site. Here, members and overseas visitors can ply their golfing skills on two excellent 18-hole championship courses ... the North and South.

The North course at PKCGC is one of the most spectacular, well-presented and demanding of Melbourne's sandbelt courses. Continual elevation changes in this very natural environment ensure that every hole is distinctive, while also providing long-range sweeping views, which include Port Phillip Bay in the distance. Tree-lined fairways, some feeling unnervingly tight, lead you to evenly sloping greens, typically defended by large stylish bunkers.

After playing some of the other high-end Melbourne sandbelt courses, Peninsula North may well strike you as more undulating in character, but also tougher than the norm. This is a layout that resists scoring by strategy rather than length. From start to finish you will be challenged and tested, and if the wind blows, be sure that a reasonable measure of humility is also available - it may well be needed.

Did you know?

The Peninsula CGC takes its name from the Mornington Peninsula, which stretches away to the south. The club started life in 1922 as the Tower Golf House Company, a residential golf and country club for men and women, located in a country setting well outside the rapidly urbanising sprawl of Melbourne. A picture of the splendid Tower House (now replaced by a more modern clubhouse) hangs in the lounge of the clubhouse.

In 2013 Peninsula CGC merged with the Kingswood Golf Club to form the Peninsula Kingswood Country Golf Club. It was the first merger of two golf clubs in Australia. Founded in 1904, Kingswood was home to an 18-hole sandbelt golf course, located in Dingley Village, 22 km north of Peninsula CGC. The Kingswood course was sold-off by the newly merged club to a property development company in 2015, and the course in Dingley Village was expected to close in 2018.
