Thirteenth Beach Golf Links (Creek course)

3-PLUS: Good course - several memorable features; worthy of 3½ stars.

Est. 2005

Thirteenth Beach Golf Links (Creek course): 13th Beach's Creek course is played inland from the Beach course, but still has many fine links credentials to make it a good test of your golfing skills. It occupies a large and relatively flat area of land that has been transformed into an interesting if not spectacular layout.

Good bunkering in particular has created excellent definition to the good-width fairways, unlike the occasional water hazards, which appear to need more work to become attractive and integral parts of the landscape. Tall pine trees are dotted around parts of the course, and, at one point, provide a most interesting framing of the short par-4 14th hole.

Although maintenance and presentation may not be quite at the level of the Beach course, overall the Creek is a pleasing and testing layout that's well worth a try. But where, one might ask, is the creek?

Did you know?

Back in the 1920s the land now occupied by the 13th Beach golf courses was bought by the Australian Jam Co. and an asparagus farm was established. Pumping gear from this period can still be seen beside the 5th tee on the Beach course.

Asparagus farming finished in the 1970s and beef ranching took over, until the late 1990s, when plans were developed to convert the land into a premium golf and residential location.

Published ranking
