Lakes Resort - Pauanui
Lakes Resort - Pauanui: Nestling down in a bowl of forested hills, approx 5 kms in from the coast, this excellently designed, constructed and maintained course is a New Zealand favourite.
A few of the early holes are lined by real estate, but only a few. The majority of the course is played away from any housing, often alongside one of several small lakes. Best of all, parts of the back-nine meander through some very natural swamp-like wetlands - here the course is at its most natural. On one occasion, between the 4th and 5th holes, you'll take a boardwalk through an area of wetland, intriguingly lined by Maori carvings.
The bunkering on this Sid Puddicombe design is excellent, not least at the par-5 17th, let's just call it "bunker alley". The 14th is one of many attractive holes, a tight par-4 with swamp on either side.
A picturesque characteristic of the course is the surrounding scenery ... wooded hills that provide a constantly changing backdrop as you journey round. Definitely a resort course with a wonderfully natural persona - lakes and all!
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
Must book in advance.
Non-metal spike facility. Walking permitted at all times. Golf carts available for hire.

The tee-box markers here at the Lakes Resort depict indigenous species of New Zealand birds: a Tui (men's back-tee), Pukeko (men's tee), Fantail (men's front tee), Kiwi (women's tee).

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).
Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).
Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with five wins out of her last five starts on the LPGA Tour. Winning the Chevron Championship also brought the second major championship win of her career.
Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda's five wins in five starts, when he placed second at the Houston Open. Either side of that, he won The Arnold Palmer, The Players, and then The Masters and The Heritage.
Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.
Jim Fazio's original layout was much changed to create a modern Ryder Cup course ... now one of the Eternal City's (and Italy's) most revered.
