Alhaurin Golf & Hotel Resort

3-star: Good course – an enjoyable test for your game.

Est. 1992

Alhaurin Golf & Hotel Resort is home to a golf course you are going to love or hate - there are few neutral reactions to this Seve Ballesteros layout. A winding, twisting, narrow road brings you up into the mountains behind the Costa del Sol, and here you'll meet a rather winding, twisting golf course with fairways matching the narrowness of the road coming up.

The rewards for making the journey here, are some of the most spectacular mountain views provided from any Costa del Sol course. The price, however, is a technically demanding, tight and hilly course, where accuracy and local knowledge command a far bigger premium than big-hitting and length - there are a number of tough and "awkward" holes that require precise course management.

The front-nine contains a series of dramatic uphill and downhill holes set in a natural environment, demanding several blind tee and approach shots. The back nine is also undulating and brings more of the Alhaurin real estate closer to the course, including a swimming pool at the short par-4 18th that is very much in the firing line of slightly wayward tee-shots.

This is one of the Costa's most spectacularly memorable layouts, but not one of its most user-friendly or "fairer" golf courses.

Did you know?

The rather stylish hill-top castle you see from the back nine is in fact a water tower, built in the mid 1990's. From the middle section of the front nine, you can see parts of the La Cala golf complex to the south.
