Golf Club d'Aro

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1990

Golf Club d'Aro: Perched up high in the lofty and elegant Mas Nou estate, course designer Ramon Espinosa has demonstrated what can be achieved from a "difficult" site, when the golf course rather than real estate gets priority.

This undulating and incredibly scenic layout has been very well designed to ensure you have sufficient room off the tee, without being terrified by narrow, impossible to hit fairways ... as is the case on several other Spanish designs. Inevitably things do get a wee bit tight, but only occasionally. The closing three holes in particular will examine whether the preceding holes have straightened-up your game.

In terms of spectacular scenery and natural surroundings the score is a near perfect 10 out of 10. The sea views, tree-covered mountains and stunning panorama down the El Ridaura valley are breathtaking - almost every hole is a picture that blends well with this wonderful environment.

With such quality scenery beyond the course, ,one almost takes for granted the excellent greens and top-quality bunkering. Definitely one of the must play courses on the Costa Brava - on a day without too much wind if possible!

Did you know?

Some of the steep sided ravines on the course perimeter are defined by electrified fencing (don't touch). We are not sure if the purpose of this fencing is to keep local animals out, or stop golfers attempting impossible climbs to recover lost balls.

A discount green fee scheme (Golf Pass G6) is operated by the following clubs in and around Girona : PGA de Catalunya, D'Aro, Costa Brava, Girona, Peralada, Torremirona.

Tournaments

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).

Who's Who

Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.

Jim Fazio's original layout was much changed to create a modern Ryder Cup course ... now one of the Eternal City's (and Italy's) most revered.
