Dunmurry Springs Golf Club: Dunmurry Springs Golf Club: GOLF COURSE CLOSED IN 2019, without any firm plan to reopen in the foreseeabe future. Check current status before planning a visit.

[Original Where2Golf description]: This challenging open parkland layout continues the trend of pushing the boundaries of Dublin's fine array of golf gems further westward. Dunmurry Springs opened in 2005, and is already enjoying an excellent reputation with local and visiting golfers alike.

Occupying relatively open land around Dunmurry Hill (the highest point in County Kildare) the golfing challenges are blended with some spectacular and dramatic views; seven of Ireland's 32 counties can be seen from the course. Although there are several areas of recent tree-planting, these do not detract from the essential linksy openness of this championship layout - but don't be lulled into thinking that open means easy.

Among many picturesque and stongly designed holes, there are some that will thoroughly test your straight hitting abilities and course management, with thick rough and OB very much in play. Water hazards, in the form of springs, lakes and wetland areas, as well as excellent bunkering also play their part in Dunmurry's defences.

The tough par-5 6th is perhaps the most exacting hole, with a pencil-thin fairway to aim at off the tee and a sharp dog-leg coming into play on the second shot. Thankfully many other holes encourage a good hit with the driver, before taking-on the often tricky approaches to the excellent, fast and sloping greens. The wind may well be a companion as you make your way round this first-class addition to Ireland's unlimited store of golfing treasures.

Did you know?

Dunmurry Springs is so called because of naturally occuring water springs in the limestone based terrain, which have been used to create some of the impressive water hazards found on the course.
