Travelling north from Myrtle Beach on US Hwy 17 : just before the South Carolina / North Carolina border, you will meet the junction of Hwy 17 and route 179 (Beach Drive SW to Calabash). Take the 179 to Calabash. After approx 3 miles, at traffic lights in Calabash, continue straight over into Old Georgetown Road SW (still on the 179). After o.7 miles turn right into the Pearl Golf Links, and follow road for approx o.8 miles to clubhouse.
Pearl Golf Links (East)
The Pearl Golf Links (East course): Few locations in the Myrtle Beach area can boast 36-holes of championship golf to match the naturalness and challenge of the Pearl Golf Links. The East and West courses differ in character, the more wooded, tighter and some might say more charming East course, being a perfect foil for the longer and at times more open West course.
The East gets straight down to business with a very solid, tree-lined and not overly wide par-5 opener. This wonderfully natural, wooded environment, full of pines, oaks and other tree varieties, will accompany you for most of the round, although at the par-4 6th a wide and picturesque creek also comes into play. The creek reappears at various times on either side of the turn; very threateningly in front of the par-4 11th green, and again at the par-3 12th, where a Monet-esque bridge brings you onto the water-surrounded green.
Throughout, the greens are a good-size without being over-sized, and are generally protected by one or two large bunkers to left or right. As on the West course, there is an abundance of excellent golf holes here on the East, also culminating in a closing section played next to the Calabash River, with its marshlands and Oyster Bay Golf Club (on the opposite bank) all in the picture.
Although a limited amount of real estate may begin to be introduced into the Pearl's very natural golfing domain, it is unlikely to be to the detriment of its two excellent and challenging golf tracts.

One cannot be too sure where the name Pearl Golf Links originated, but with the nearby Calabash River supporting vast oyster beds, maybe one or two of their pearly contents surfaced as the golf courses were under construction ?
