Auburn Links at Mill Creek

3-PLUS: Good course - several memorable features; worthy of 3½ stars.

Est. 1991

Auburn Links at Mill Creek: This very enjoyable public golf course just to the south-west of Auburn is laid out in predominantly natural, undulating woodland. Running through the property from north to south is the main water hazard on the course, the good-sized Mill Creek, which quickly introduces itself, cutting across the undulating fairway of the par-4 1st hole - not once but twice. The creek reappears at other points in the round, running alongside one or two fairways, or providing a hazard to be crossed on the par-4 10th and 18th fairways, and at the par-3 13th. Much of the course is played through a picturesque and gently undulating environment, with mature trees lining most of the fairways. Real estate only gets into the act in the middle of the back-nine, where the par-4 14th and dog-legging par-5 15th sweep their way around the Mill Creek housing subdivision. There's plenty of good bunkering and occasionally some tightish drives to make on this excellent value and well maintained public course.

Tournaments

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).

Who's Who

Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.
