TimberCreek Golf Club

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1993

TimberCreek Golf Club: Three attractive nine-hole loops - the Dogwood, Magnolia and Pines - provide a scenic and challenging test of golf on this popular and busy semi-private course. Although a substantive amount of real estate lines many of the holes, it is not to the detriment of this handsome, undulating, lightly wooded, parkland layout. Although some of the Magnolia's holes are within earshot of the interstate highway, it nonetheless has some of the finest and toughest holes. Occupying the most natural terrain, the elevation changes on the Magnolia are the most pronounced, and real estate is less in evidence. The Magnolia's excellent par-4 8th for example, requires a tight carry over an area of wetland preserve and then a gently uphill approach to a pine framed green.

The Pines course also benefits from a very pleasant section, which includes its opening hole and closing four. The feel here is much more open, in contrast to the Pines' middle section, characterised by tree-lined holes between the houses. Not to be outdone, the Dogwood also weighs in with several well laid out and nicely bunkered holes, not least the downhill 7th, which is played to a water-protected green - a great risk-reward par-5. High quality upkeep and maintenance is generally the case at TimberCreek, ensuring that members and visitors alike can count on good playing surfaces while their golfing skills are put to the test.

Did you know?

TimberCreek is located in an area known as Spanish Fort, which has a very rich history. Originally a French trading post, the Spanish built a fort here in 1780 soon after taking the area from the British in the American Revolutionary War (War of Independence). The British attacked and destroyed the fort in 1781, but the Spanish rebuilt it in 1799. Spanish Fort was taken by the United States in 1814. In the American Civil War, this heavily fortified area was the site of the Battle of Spanish Fort, part of the Union's Mobile campaign.
