RTJ Golf Trail - Magnolia Grove (Crossings course): located just outside the port city of Mobile, on Alabama's Gulf Coast, Magnolia Grove can boast two fabulous golf courses. The Crossings (which gets its name from the fact that you will twice cross over railway tracks), is another definitive, undulating, wooded parkland course, masterfully created by Robert Trent Jones Snr.

Like so many others on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, the terrain is wonderfully rolling and handsomely tree-lined, giving rise to one majestically sculpted hole after another. There is no real estate here, no roads, and no distant views, just a thoroughly natural and absorbing course that exudes quality and a good degree of challenge from start to finish.

Water is seldom a factor here, but many elevated tee positions and well-bunkered, elevated greens ensure each of the mainly wooded holes has its own special character and charm. The undulating fairways are not overly wide, lined with a good-sized band of semi-rough, which in summer can be penal. Beyond the semi-rough, are plenty of mature pines and oaks.

Before arriving at the fabulous uphill par-4 closing hole, take care on the green of the par-3 17th - with the pin in its usual position its not difficult to putt the ball off the green, across the cart path and down into a swampy mire.

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).

Who's Who

Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.
