Palm Resort Golf & Country Club

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1992

Palm Resort Golf & Country Club is one of Johor's popular golfing venues, boasting three 18-hole championship courses - the Cempaka "tournament" course, Allamanda "resort" course and Melati "links-style" course. Laid out on undulating terrain, all three courses feature an abundance of landscaped gardens and natural flora, as well as several water-flanked fairways, sharply doglegging holes and threatening bunkers.

Cempaka is the premier member's course. With water in play on half the holes, and quite a few tight undulating fairways, it is the course most often used for tournament play. Several severe doglegs, narrow fairways, nine holes with water and more than 60 sand bunkers ensure plenty of golfing challenge.

Melati is the more open "links-style" layout, an out-and-back design with a 'first tee only' start. It is the longest of the three courses at 7,209 yards from the black tees, and has the least amount of water in play. Amongst its unique features the par-3 2nd sports what is reputedly the largest bunker in Malaysia, whilst the 684-yard par-5 15th lays claim to being the country's longest hole.

Allamanda is billed as the easy-going 'resort' course with extensive landscaping and two signature holes, the par-3 2nd and doglegging water-defended 15th. In the middle of the layout is not so much an island-green, as an island-three-greens. The par-3 2nd, and short par-4 6th and 14th holes all converge on the same small island, which is home to each of their three separate greens.

Did you know?

Palm Resort's three courses take their names from flora, which can be found around the resort. Allamanda or Golden Trumpet (common name) is a yellow flower which trims to a shrub of 3 to 4 meters in height. The botanical name is Allamanda Cathartica 'hendersonii'.

Cempaka is a Malayan magnolia hardwood tree. Melati is a white flower derived from the jasmine family. Known botanically as Wrightia Religiosa it is native to Thailand and Malaysia and can grow to a height of 2 metres.

Tournaments

The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).

Who's Who

Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.
