National Service Resort Country Club

3-PLUS: Good course - several memorable features; worthy of 3½ stars.

Est. 1994

The National Service Resort & Country Club (also referred to as SAFRA) predominantly caters for the National Service personnel of Singapore. However, its doors and excellent golf course are also open to local and overseas visiting golfers.

Bounded by Laguna National golf clubs to the west (across the East Coast Parkway) and the Straights of Singapore to the south, the layout comprises two challenging nine-hole loops. Originally there were three nines - Army, Air Force and Navy - and a nine-hole executive course.

With the reduction to 18-holes of golf, the NSRCC course also underwent a major refurbishment. New greens, reshaped bunkers, additional tree planting and lake extensions all improved and toughened-up this very pleasant parkland layout. Much of the course has a relatively open character, with plenty of stylish earthmounding breaking up the innate flatness of the site.

There are occasional views onto the Straight of Singapore, which separates Singapore from the Indonesian islands of Batam and Bintan. Proximity to the East Coast Expressway and international airport can mean some background noise on a few holes on the course.

Did you know?

The National Service Resort is a proprietary club of SAFRA - the Singapore Armed Forces Recreation Association. SAFRA was formed in 1972 with the objective of helping the SAF build morale and camaraderie amongst National Servicemen and women, to foster a cohesive fighting force. Since then, SAFRA has grown into a prominent organisation with a network of clubs to provide quality social, recreational, sports and educational facilities.

The National Service Resort & Country Club facilities can be enjoyed by visitors as well as by its armed forces members. In 2004 the NSRCC opened a second 18-hole championship golf course called Kranji Sanctuary Golf Course. Kranji Sanctuary is a Gary Player design, which spans 6400 metres and is located at Neo Tiew Lane 3 in the north-west corner of Singapore island.
