Gassan Khuntan Golf & Resort

3-PLUS: Good course - several memorable features; worthy of 3½ stars.

Est. 2004

Gassan Khuntan Golf & Resort is home to the first of a challenging triumvirate of Gassan courses, developed in the mid-2000s to the southeast of Chiang Mai, in the province of Lamphun. All three are designed by Gassan's owner Pravit Raeng-Po, and all three bring water into play to a very considerable extent.

Laid out alongside the Khuntan National Park, and with the River Tha (a tributary of the River Ping) running straight through the course, there is plenty to keep your golfing and visual senses fully occupied here.

Like other Gassan properties, the Khuntan layout includes bunkers galore and as much water as your nerves can handle. Island greens, sharp doglegging holes, double-doglegs, carries over water, riverside fairways, fairways split by ditches and some flanked by water on both sides are all in the mix.

In addition to what lies within the layout, there's quite a lot going on beyond the course boundary as well. Very prominent at the southern end, are the twin arches of the Tha Chomphu White Bridge. Other bridges, weirs and waterfalls also feature. To the east the jungle-clad hills of the National Park provides a wonderfully natural backdrop throughout.
