St Francis Bay Golf Club

3-star: Good course – an enjoyable test for your game.

Est. 1975

St Francis Bay Golf Club: The delightful seaside village of St Francis Bay can now boast two very contrasting championship golf courses. The new kid on the block is the ruggedly challenging, Nicklaus-designed St Francis Links. For an easier-going and more parkland style golf outing, the very welcoming St Francis Bay Golf Club also attracts many visiting golfers.

Created by an ancient sand dune system, St Francis Bay's gently undulating terrain is home to a mix of quite tight, bush-lined holes that have been carved out of the thick coastal fynbos, and others that have a more open and linksy feel. Small oyster-shaped and pot-style bunkers are sparingly used around the often small and gently sloping greens.

The short par-4 11th through to the par-5 15th holes occupy their own parcel of land (on the other side of St Francis Drive) and bring you closest to the sea. However, sea views are limited to a quick glimpse of the ocean at the 12th and 13th holes, although around the course perimeter you can admire the white-walled, thatch-roofed houses very typical of St Francis Bay (in fact the vast majority of houses in the village are thatched).

Among several testing holes, the short par-3 8th is a gem, with two palm trees standing watchfully on either side of the green and water to be crossed before reaching the safety of the putting surface.

"The Club with heart, at the heart of the village" will provide a pleasant golfing challenge on a course that combines the characteristics of both parkland and links-style golf.

While in St Francis Bay, you may hear references to "The Canals". This is actually a very stylish, aquatic housing development located just to the north of the St Francis Bay golf course. The development has been created around a network of waterways that feed from the River Krom estuary.

Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).

Who's Who

Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.
